the underground rave scene & trance music
Raves and ravers to me, have always felt like my home away from home. There is nothing like walking in the middle of nowhere, taking strange steps through the forest until you stumble upon your tribe, assembled in a giant art celebration. A strange environment creates the perfect place for strange people to gather with strange music and strange lightshows, and celebrate our quirkyness. If you've ever felt like an outcast, this is a place you'll fit right in.
Born at the intersection of technology and spirituality, cyber-raving represents a fusion of traditional trance music with the boundless possibilities of the digital realm. It encapsulates the essence of transcendence, inviting listeners on a journey through ethereal soundscapes and pulsating rhythms.
Underground trance genres like acid trance, psytrance, and progressive trance are known for their hypnotic beats, intricate melodies, and immersive soundscapes. Drawing from a mix of psychedelic, cyberpunk, and futuristic influences, this music transports listeners to unique realms where reality blurs and imagination runs wild. Whether it's the squelchy acid basslines, the driving rhythms of psytrance, or the lush layers of progressive trance, these styles weave together diverse sonic textures that defy easy categorization.
The Tekno and Free Party Movement
Born out of a desire to party without contributing to the capitalist industry of entertainment, free parties are thrown in the forest or in fields. Coordinates are sent through encrypted means or recorded on voicemail; people bring their equipments, generators, and follow a strict "leave no trace" policy. There is a synergy that happens when listening to electronic music in nature, whether it's at a festival or a free party; the sounds of the songbirds and the wind brushing the branches of the trees mix with the songs; you can observe birds seemingly flying to the melody and leaves vibrating with the rythm of the bass. It is hard to go back to 'partying between four walls' afterwards. Maybe it's also the freedom of movement, and the freedom of time; you can move however you want, if there isn't enough space for dancing, you can move away; you can pick a cute area under a tree and set up a blanket and have a snack or a nap; you can come and go as you please.
However, as time goes, these types of parties become increasingly rare; as it is perceived that the only good party, is a party that contributes to the economy.
Whether experienced in a crowded rave, an intimate forest gathering, or through headphones in a quiet room, this underground trance scene invites you to lose yourself in rhythm, explore new states of consciousness, and connect with a vibrant community united by sound and spirit. It's a celebration of creativity, transformation, and the shared journey of musical discovery.
